The cranium is very fantastic.
I feel this destruction and futility.

Me, too! But I'm also afraid doing so will destroy what made it awesome for me back when I was, what, 11? Maybe those memories are best preserved as they are. I'll do that with this painting instead. ;)

haha, yeah, that happens sometimes. It hasn't been *that* long since I've seen it though and I still like it. I feel it was widely misunderstood or something, definitely under-rated

mind me asking how many layers you use in a general painting?
Reply
:icondavepalumbo:
davepalumbo Featured By Owner Feb 5, 2013
usually a monochromatic block in (rough) and then a finish layer over that. On occasion it may need a third pass for tightening up or adding accents

oh really, thats all?..seems like more givin the realism of it, youd think of a multitude of layers would achieve this effect, awesome tho that you dont need to do that, would love to learn from you!

This is incredible. If you don't mind me asking, how many hours did you spend on it and how much did Wizards pay you for this type of commission? I'm genuinely curious; Magic art is my biggest inspiration, and I admire the artists SO much!!

thanks! I'm not sure specific hours. Usually I think awhile on the description, then spend a day or so sketching, shoot reference, and then another few days creating the painting. On average about 3-5 solid work days
